This Institute of Hotel Management Gangtok was set up in the year 1990 by Ministry of Tourism , Govt. of India and Government of Sikkim as Food Craft Institute with the aim for expansion and promotion of Hotel and Hospitality education, to fulfill the requirement of manpower in the hotel industry. With the basic aim to provide job-oriented and professional higher education to students of all three streams (Sciences, Arts & Commerce) and to promote and popularise hospitality education according to the industry demand, all the programmes offered by the Institute are significantly designed and assures:
It was later upgraded to three years B.Sc. Degree course in HOSPITALITY & HOTEL ADMINISTRATION affiliated to NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR HOTEL MANAGEMENT & CATERING TECHNOLOGY (NCHMCT)& INDIRA GANDHI NATIONAL OPEN UNIVERSITY (IGNOU)-following persistent effort by the Institute.
THROUGH A SURVEY CONDUCTED BY THE GLOBAL HUMAN RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT OF INDIA-FOR THE COMPETITION SUCCESS REVIEW, for overall ranking Hotel Management Institutes existing in INDIA and affiliated to National council for Hotel Management, has revealed that (HM) Gangtok has acquired 9th position among 36 IHMs & HMIs in the country. In terms of placement –IHM Gangtok has secured 5th position.
